Job Title: WASH Coordinator
Location: Madagali, Adamawa

Job Overview / Summary
- The role of the WASH Coordinator is to lead and provide technical support for the planning and ensuring smooth operations of WASH activities and WASH-related interventions.
- The position holder is expected to have sound experience and knowledge on WASH and construction supervision of rural water supply and sanitation facilities.
- The positions involve construction works, training, monitoring with frequent trips to the project sites and supervise all physical works construction in the targeted community sites.
- The WASH Coordinator will also support the overall capacity building of local staff and stakeholders in WASH. The person will plan and implement WASH projects, foster internal and external networks with stakeholders and donors and provides technical support for developing funding proposals.
- The WASH Coordinator manages, leads, and provides direction to the WASH team in line with LESGO priorities. S/he is expected to liaise with communities, local authorities, and other agencies regularly to ensure coordination and effective implementation activities and participate in meetings regarding WASH.
- The coordinator will also ensure project monitoring, regular reviews, preparation of funders reports and capturing learnings when necessary.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage the assigned WASH project(s) to meet the project objectives within budget and allot time frame.
- Provide strong leadership to ensure both short & long-term positive impacts and outcomes for the beneficiaries, local authorities, and local WASH staff.
- Develop and implement an appropriate and effective WASH strategy, setting clear objectives and indicators, for WASH activities in consultation with other WASH staff and where appropriate, with the local communities.
- Continuously monitor and supervise WASH activities, overseeing the technical design, execution, and evaluation of progress through outputs and impacts using both quantitative and qualitative data.
- Provide input into the integration of beneficiary participation and accountability in all aspects of the project.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities according to donor and other applicable timeframes and formats.
- Facilitate regular staff meetings to ensure awareness of project objectives, and opportunity for feedback.
- Participate in WASH coordination meetings and other working groups, representing LESGO and feeding back to the WASH staff on relevant issues.
- Checking the quality of materials and workmanship for conformity with the requirements of the contract and provide site instructions as required
- Approving of the contractor’s work to proceed from one stage to another.
- Taking responsibilities for the construction work and administration of the contract.
- Responsible for overall monthly, weekly planning of project activities and writing technical part of the project reports.
- Organize and lead project coordination meetings.
- Ensure a positive working environment and good team dynamics (solve out potential conflicts and create good team sprit)
- Develop work plans in line with financial pipelines.
- Ensure that technical quality and standards are considered during project implementation WASH activities design, follow up and evaluation.
- Implement all program activities, as member of a team, such as hand dug wells with alternative energy sources, boreholes rehabilitation, open ponds, new water scheme development, pit latrines, placental pits, incinerators, and other WASH infrastructures.
- Work closely with program support functions (logistics and finance departments) for WASH program supplies and activities planning.
Qualification And Experience Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Water Engineering, Public Health, Nursing, Sanitary Science, International Development or other relevant field of study
- At least 4 years of relevant work experience in program design and implementation in an NGO environment.
- Proven knowledge and experience in developing and implementing community mobilization projects, standards and guidelines for WASH programming and coordination.
- Familiarity with humanitarian operations, coordination structures, and the mandates of donors, UN agencies, and other NGOs.
- General knowledge of international/intergovernmental institutions, and a solid interest in humanitarian response and development
- Community mobilization and development, familiar with participatory approach.
- Technical background and knowledge in environmental health and demonstrated work experience in designing & implementing sanitation and hygiene promotion programs and events
- Proficiency in spoken and written English, Hausa, and other local languages.
- Strong computer and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to set up monitoring & evaluation systems in large complex Programs.
- Excellent communication, analytical skills, organization, and writing/editing skills.
- Relevant professional background in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH)
- Good understanding of the linkages between WASH, public health, and development
