Job Title: Environment Manager

Location: Maiduguri, Borno

About the Job

  • The Environmental Manager reports to the Plant Quality and Environment Manager and is responsible for ensuring plant processes are planned, implemented, and monitored to comply with ISO standards, Coca Cola Operating Requirements (KORE), CCH and regulatory requirements through effective implementation of management systems and periodic audits.

Job Responsibilities

  • Cascade group and country environmental strategies and priorities to the plant level – Lead its execution at the plant level and ensure compliance with the legal requirements in environmental area, with the goal of minimizing impact.
  • Lead the implementation of plant operations environmental footprint reduction and align plant activities to meet the company’s sustainability commitments and deliver annual milestones in areas of water and energy use, emissions as well as waste management.
  • Implement and maintain good environmental management practices and controls in accordance with the company (CCH & KORE) and applicable local requirements related to environmental measurement, record keeping and reporting.
  • Develop and implement engagement, collaboration/co-operation plans between the government regulatory bodies and the company.
  • Develop capabilities of plant employees, leadership and suppliers on water, energy, and waste minimization initiatives.
  • Drive behavioral change initiatives related to environment across all functions and departments, plant associates etc.
  • Lead environmental risk assessment and corrective action plans related to audits and environmental performance in the plants. Lead the environmental certification process (ISO 14000/14001, SVA, WMP, AWS, ISO 14064 etc.)
  • Ensure that all relevant environmental and related licenses and permits are always up to date and available.
  • Supervise wastewater treatment processes and output to ensure strict compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and supervise activities of environmental consultants and review monitoring reports prepared by them to ensure accuracy.
  • Drive internal audit program of the plant through timely planning and execution of internal audits.
  • Ensure proper feedback to plant management/Head Office through proper tracking and provision of reports on established performance metrics.
  • Lead the execution of environmental priorities at plant level and embed environmental culture in the plant and cascade to all level and functions.

Educational Qualification and Experience

  • B.Sc./HND in Environmental Management, Microbiology, Food Science, Industrial Chemistry, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge and understanding of water minimization, energy reduction, waste management and recycling, and wastewater quality practices and requirement.
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practices.
  • Understanding of the supply chain strategy.
  • Knowledge of key environmental impact, practices & process.
  • Efficient knowledge and understanding of the environmental modules in the Coca-Cola requirement (KORE) local environmental law and regulations.
