Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) is an Italian humanitarian non-governmental organization founded in Milan in 1965. COOPI aims to help the world’s poorest to improve their access to healthcare, food, and financial security, and to overcome their special vulnerability to wars, civil conflicts and natural disasters. For 50 years of long-term support and constant presence in the field, COOPI has been engaged in breaking the cycle of poverty and responding to specific emergencies in numerous sectors, including Food Security, Humanitarian Aid, Health, Socio-Economical Services, Water and Sanitation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Human Rights, Education and Training, Migrations and Sustainable Energy.

COOPI started its operations in North-East Nigeria in July 2014 to carry out a rapid evaluation of the most relevant constraints suffered by the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) displaced by the food crisis and the Boko Haram insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Field Enumerator – Data Collector

Locations: Goronyo, Rabah, Sabon Birni and Sokoto South LGA, Sokoto
Employment Type: Contract
Retention Period: 12 months (Renewable Based on Performance and Assessment of Conduct)

Scope

  • Selected Enumerators / Data Collection Personnel will be profiled and retained in COOPI Nigeria database and will be working as part of the Monitoring, Evaluation Accountability and Learning (MEAL) unit in the field offices within Sokoto State to assist in collecting and analyzing data and information from the program participants.
  • He / she will be regularly called upon as required for collection of project activity qualitative and quantitative data mostly using digital platform.
  • Retention period will be for 12 months and renewable based on performance and assessment of conduct.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities

  • Participate in community assessment, registration of new beneficiaries, collect and record information as required.
  • Ensure accuracy of data collected from respondents and properly document/input such in the questionnaire or digital device.
  • Expected to take good care of any equipment provided for the assignment and will be required to return them in the same state as they are received.
  • Work closely with the program team to capture all relevant data and information from program
  • Participate in debrief sessions to share field experiences about the community and the entire data collection process.
  • Submit a report of the activity including details of findings as required by the supervising staff and in the format approved by the project.
  • Interpret interview questions to assist respondents in understanding them and providing eloquent answers.
  • Be expected to ensure completeness of all assigned questionnaire, discussion guide or data collection tool
  • Transcribe Focus Group Discussion and in-depth interview data when necessary.
  • Participate in planning and conducting quantitative and qualitative research (focus group discussions and in-depth interviews) when necessary.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Ensure confidentiality & ethical consideration in line with the COOPI’s data protection principles & the humanitarian principles of do no harm.
  • Promote effective partnership by collaborating with the partners and donors in the field during data collection, including beneficiaries to achieve shared goals & optimize results.
  • Ensure respect, promote individual & cultural differences, encourage diversity by maintaining high ethical standards & act consistently with organizational principles / rules & standards of conduct.
  • This ToR shall be inclusive of any other task specifically assigned by the MEAL Officer and indirect supervisors for what concerns the implementation of the program activities.

Key Competencies

  • Certificate, Diploma, Degree in relevant field with a minimum of 2 years for a university diploma or a year for a degree.
  • Experience in the field of humanitarian assistance is an advantage.
  • Experience in data collection & statistics is an advantage.
  • Respect & promote individual & cultural differences & encourage diversity.
  • Integrity & transparency maintain high ethical standards & act in a manner consistent with organizational principles / rules & standards of conduct.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work in a composed, competent & committed manner & exercises careful judgment in meeting day to day challenges.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is an advantage.
  • Requires the technical skills to use design software programs mentioned above & possesses a general interest & aptitude for learning new technology.
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills, including experience presenting to multiple audiences (e.g., technical & non technical, government circle).
  • Inter personal skills & very sociable disposition stemming from proven experience.
  • Produces & delivers quality results in a service oriented & timely manner, is action oriented & committed to achieving agreed outcomes.
  • Continuously seeks to learn, share knowledge & innovate.
  • Takes ownership for achieving the organization’s priorities & assumes responsibility for own action & delegated work.
  • Experience in the humanitarian field, NGO, or INGO is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain integrity in performing responsibilities assigned.
  • Trusted by the community, with a certain maturity in making decisions, widely accepted & respected.
  • Possess good leadership skills & the ability to explain instructions clearly.
  • Good knowledge of English, Hausa, Kanuri & other native languages where deemed necessary based on areas of deployment or redeployment.
