Job Purpose
- The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing both clinical and administrative support to ensure smooth operations in the Farm clinic.
Job Description
- Taking Medical Histories: Recording patient medical histories and vital signs.
- Â Assisting with Examinations: Preparing patients for examination, assisting the physician during examinations.
- Performing Basic Laboratory tests: Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens.
- Performing venipunctures and other phlebotomy procedures.
- Respond to Emergencies: Monitory partners on the farm, reacting to emergencies and getting them to the health center
- Ensure sufficient availability of all drugs in the clinic weekly/monthly/quarter
- Coordinate regular updating of services in the clinic and request for resupply of drugs when necessary.
- Provide immediate medical care and first aid to farm workers in case of injuries or illnesses
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all farm workers.
- Wound Care: Dressing wounds and removing sutures or staples.
- Patient Education: Providing patient education and instructions on medications, special diets, and other physician-prescribed treatment regimens.
- Sterilizing Equipment: Ensuring all medical instruments and examination rooms are sterilized and properly maintained.
- Carry out other duties as required by management.
Additional Duties:
- Scheduling Appointments: Managing patient appointments and follow-ups.
- Patient Check-In/Check-Out: Handling patient registration, check-in, and check-out procedures.
- Medical Records: Updating and maintaining accurate electronic and hard copies of all diagnosed partners attended to at the clinic in Soilless Farm Lab.
- Patient Communication: Communicating with patients regarding test results, prescriptions, and treatment plans as directed by a physician.
- Office Management: Assisting with the overall management and coordination of the office or clinic.
- Handling Financial Transactions: Processing payments and managing financial transactions.
- Correspondence: Managing correspondence, including answering phone calls and responding to emails.
- Inventory Management: Ordering and maintaining inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
Requirements / Competencies Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Medical Sciences or any related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing/Medical experience, preferably in an occupational health or emergency care setting.
- Experience in a farm or agricultural setting is a plus.
- Valid medical license in the state of employment.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong clinical and first aid skills.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and electronic health record systems.
- Excellent organizational and record-keeping abilities.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
