Job Title: Security and Safety Manager

Location: Abuja, Nigeria

About the Role

  • The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Security and Safety Manager to ensure day-to-day safety and security management, and assurance for the Nigeria Country Office including situation monitoring, information sharing, implementing mitigation measures, reporting, and evaluation. This role will be offered on a two(2) year fixed term contract, subject to availability of funding and will be based in Abuja, Nigeria.
  • The Security and Safety Manager will be GAIN Nigeria’s in-house expert on security and safety and will be responsible for providing operational guidance as well as identify, analyse, assess and manage security and safety risks faced by staff, other personnel, assets and programmes across its offices and project locations.
  • They will also be responsible for implementing and overseeing improved practice in safety and security. The postholder will work closely with GAIN’s global Security Manager and may contribute to some global security activities whilst focusing on Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, accurate and consultative situation analysis, actor mapping, and Security Risks Assessment for Country and Field Locations that will guide decision making for new awards/ proposals and emergency preparedness actions, and inform decisions on geographical reach, program interventions, and partners.
  • Provide Security briefings to incoming visitors on arrival and security orientation to newly hired staff as part of the onboarding process.
  • Responsible for overall safety and security of GAIN Nigeria staff, reputation, and assets for the country programme.
  • In collaboration with the operations department, ensure that GAIN vehicles, drivers and passengers are prepared and informed of road travel risks and all possible mitigation and training elements are in place for safe road travel.
  • Translate Security Risks Assessments into practical and pragmatic Security Management, Incident Management, Business Continuity, and Contingency plans for all locations.
  • Support in conflict sensitive analysis and development of relevant and appropriate mitigation measures to inform operational and programmatic decisions.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for gathering real-time and actionable intelligence on security threats, vulnerabilities, and incidents.

About you

  • The ideal candidate should have experience in conducting programmatic security risk assessments and overseeing the whole security component of an organisation preferably in a non-profit setting. You should have experience working with field project teams to ensure their security and that of organisational assets at any given time including developing contingency plans for all project locations.
  • The position holder should have experience in project designing to engage with relevant awards/project teams along with leadership to ensure that adequate security budgets are allocated. You should have capacity building skills to train staff on all security and safety matters.
  • An education background with a degree, preferably in Risk/ Security/ Crisis Management, Certification in Security / Risk Management is a plus. Background in intelligence focused service in the military, Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), etc. will be an added advantage.

Salary

N14,956,632 – N17,101,296 gross per annum depending on experience
