About The Role

  • The Lagos and Benin Breweries produce 1.5 to 1.6 million hectoliters each of various Guinness products per annum and package these products for the local, national and export markets.
  • The packaging department is accountable for the packaging of all brewing products into returnable and non-returnable containers, ready for distribution.
  • The role is responsible for meeting shift production volumes on the line at the right quality through the technical operators, while achieving targets in a cost-efficient manner.
  • The role is also responsible for the entrenchment of PPM practices in a safe and healthy working environment.
  • The Team lead runs the line during shift production hours and accounts to the Shift manager in regard to leading their team and the department assets.

Dimensions
Financial:

  • Supporting the shift manager in effective management of shift variable costs, raw materials, component and utility costs and production, quality, rework and labour cost
  • Responsible for the packaging equipment assets management of their line

Market Complexity:

  • The Nigerian beer market is very sophisticated with many competitors and a strong quality, cost and delivery focus.
  • Need to constantly reduce production cost, while maintaining high quality and delivery in a highly unionized working environment

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Build the conditions for people to succeed: Manages line responsibility including direct responsibility for mentoring and supporting team workers and contractors and indirectly supervising maintenance activities.
  • Stay focused on delivering great performance- Demonstrate deep personal accountability for great performance.
  • Ensure controls are in place to guarantee Diageo’s performance and reputation.
  • Interact with other Shift Managers, Packaging Manager, brewing dept. (key internal supplier), Engineering and Supply Planning, to ensure that target volumes are achieved cost effectively and on time.

Purpose of Role

  • Overall responsibility for the delivery of shift outputs, targets and goals on the line by managing, leading and supporting team to produce to desired quality and yield levels in the most cost effective and efficient manner.
  • To support the shift manager in managing resource allocation, develop team members and optimize individual potential to contribute to overall site performance.

Key Decisions:

  • Asset care optimization
  • Raw materials and components allocation.

Role Responsibiities

  • Supervise and coordinate all activities of technical operators to ensure that products scheduled for line are produced to target volumes and specifications with best possible efficiencies and optimum
  • Supporting shift manager to Control cost of packaging online by minimizing process waste, improving efficiencies and taking appropriate actions to reduce downtime and improve quality.
  • Develop & deliver improved performance against targets through effective problem solving, decision-making and communication between the team members and aligned, planned activity with Operations Improvement Team, Engineering support and Supply Planning.
  • Lead implementation of the company’s health, safety, quality, environment and hygiene standards for the protection of company products, personnel and assets in the packaging environment

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Science or Engineering Degree or HND
  • Should hold an IBG/NSE qualification and knowledge of packaging and WCM techniques.
  • Proven expertise in food or drink packaging environment with a track record of delivering sustainable improvements in packaging efficiency and quality, particularly through effective people management and development.
  • Knowledge of Guinness policies is an added advantage.
  • Structured problem evaluation & solving skills and ready to make decisions, take the initiative and originate action.
  • High level of energy and commitment to team based achievement and high interpersonal effectiveness to develop & sustain robust relationships.
  • Competency in operating any two of the labeller, filler or bottle washer machines in the packaging line
  • Competency in packaging management and prioritization of resources to meet key targets,
